The National Accounts Director is primary responsible for monitoring  Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurer activities in order to develop and implement strategic plans in response to the changing reimbursement environment. This position reports to the Vice President of Market Access, Corporate Accounts and Nursing Services.


  • Secure and maintain favorable access for PROVENGE and build long-term relationships with local carriers, fiscal intermediaries, and payer influencers within a geographical area
  • Manage Medicare Advisory Committee (MAC) and Commercial Payer guidelines focused on prostate cancer through developing and expanding relationships with carrier medical directors (CMDs), policy analysts, carrier advisory committee members (CACs), medical personnel and Dendreon Cross Functional Stakeholders
  • Develop strategies and methodologies related to Medicaid and other public and private sector reimbursement programs
  • Identify targeted opportunities and facilitate collaborative efforts and initiatives with commercial payers
  • Identify opportunities to appropriately position PROVENGE with large provider groups and commercial payers utilizing developed value propositions, messaging and marketing materials or economic based tools
  • Identify policy trends among federal, state and commercial payers
  • Educate, train and support field sales teams on regional reimbursement issues that impact local market performance and provide actionable direction through business planning and communications
  • In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Accounts establish working relationships with state societies and associations in order to monitor guidelines and facilitating change. Attend programs that impact reimbursement policy and raise overall clinical awareness for PROVENGE
  • Act as an advocate for and resource to customers and their professional organizations in the areas of reimbursement and managed care
  • Develop local provider payer advocates to support Company initiatives, communications and education of commercial payers on brand specific clinical messages and appropriate uses
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or science required. MBA desirable
  • 7+ years’ managed care experience required, preferably in the healthcare, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience in the oncology/urology area preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ of demonstrated success in a sales management role
  • Experience working in the buy and bill area of reimbursement is required
  • Medicare Part B Commercial payer experience required
  • Prior experience in a payer contracting environment preferred
  • Knowledge of patient assistance programs preferred
