  • Overview

    The Senior Buyer manages all activities related to the planning, purchase, and receipt of materials, used in the manufacturing and quality support functions at all Dendreon manufacturing sites.  Leads purchasing, and logistics activities to maintain inventory of raw materials and supplies at planned levels. Primary point person in negotiating and interfacing with suppliers to ensure best quality and best value.  Develop and implement programs to manage total procurement and inventory costs associated with the purchase of goods and services. Foster strong working relationships and communications with internal stakeholders and supply base to monitor open purchase orders and ensure on-time deliveries.  Create metrics and quantitative analysis to monitor and improve supplier performance.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop concepts and provide data analysis for production planning and volume studies; and participates in process improvement efforts.
    • Gather requirements from manufacturing, materials management, and quality control to order necessary equipment, raw materials, and supplies to meet demands and production schedules, while maintaining inventory at planned levels.
    • Optimize MRP and maintenance of planning & master data parameters (i.e. lead times, order frequency).
    • Complete ordering documentation necessary for GMP and non-GMP raw materials, receipts and dispositions.
    • Establish inventory levels for GMP and non-GMP operations, ensuring acceptable inventory levels are met.
    • Develop standardized direct procurement processes across the organization in support of reducing costs and improving supplier performance.
    • Negotiate with suppliers; including, developing bid lists, obtaining quotations, examining bids, and making awards.
    • Evaluate supplier reliability; as necessary, identifies new suppliers and/or supply sources when current suppliers are inadequate.
    • Serve as the liaison between supplier quality and GMP suppliers to initiate and manage Supplier Investigations.
    • Maintain procedures and material control systems. Including electronic and paper files, logs, purchase orders and other related documentation.
    • Monitor supplier performance to improve quality, delivery and price performance and leads efforts to work with poor performing suppliers to implement performance improvement plans
    • Monitor physical inventories and cycle counts to ensure the appropriate levels of materials are maintained. Ensuring annual company-wide inventory targets are met.
    • Represent procurement on manufacturing Quality initiatives.
    • Ensure the implementation of and compliance with Dendreon policies and procedures, strategy and standards, , GMP requirements, transportation compliance, and customs.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in supply chain, business, or engineering.
    • Minimum of 8 years experience in procurement, inventory control, and/or materials management.
    • Knowledge of business processes for materials management, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), master data configuration and replenishment supply methods.
    • Knowledge of the implementation and management of supply agreements.
    • Expert using Word, Excel, Visio, Access and other Microsoft applications.
    • Certification from ISM or APICS desired.
    • Experience working within a scientific or high-tech industry preferred.
    • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical business preferred.
    • Experience working in regulated environment, understands quality systems, and cGMP.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently are essential.
    • Proven ability to negotiate specifications, pricing and delivery with suppliers.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
