  • Overview

    The Director, Market Access and Reimbursement is responsible for leading the market access and reimbursement teams by developing, implement pricing, reimbursement, and market access strategies for Dendreon’s lead product PROVENGE.  This position reports to the SVP, Marketing and Commercial Operations.

    Responsibilities

    • Develops Market Access strategy including payer, distribution, GPO, contracting, pricing and reimbursement strategies for Dendreon.
    • Creates and executes market access strategies to influence and accelerate favorable coverage and reimbursement access and policies.
    • Develops and delivers key customer segments /sectors – commercial payers, integrated health systems, ACO’s, IDN’s, public payers.
    • Partners with sales and marketing to create wrap around service at the patient and practice (MD, office manager, nurse) level that builds reimbursement confidence and accelerates onboarding of new patients to therapy.
    • Develops and implements strategy and tactics across the market access organization to optimize payer coverage and reimbursement as well as provider and patient access.
    • Partners with marketing, medical affairs, and sales leadership to develop, evolve, and optimize the value proposition for PROVENGE including HEOR strategy, budget impact models, total cost of care models, and core messaging.
    • Ensures team has resources (budget, marketing, HEOR, training) required to drive coverage and reimbursement confidence with physicians and practice managers.
    • Educates and prepares for the changing payer environment and designated expert in reimbursement, CMS Programs and guidelines, GPO contracting strategies, and payer opportunities. Responsible for leading all aspects around government pricing and contracting functions.
    • Provides leadership to executive team for strategy and measurement of government pricing, distribution and GPO contracting.
    • Manages planning, execution and negotiation, incorporating health economics tools into the local reimbursement negotiation process.
    • Ensures best in-market pricing according to the market opportunities. Communicates these price changes to all charge masters and compendia services to ensure proper reimbursement in the market.
    • Manages internal needs and contracting for data to ensure IT platform meets finance, price reporting, contracting need (rebates), ERP and distribution.
    • Drives innovative approaches to deploying value profile and reimbursement submissions that demonstrate how Dendreon will meet unmet medical and customer evidence needs.
    • Understands, analyzes and demonstrates the clinical, economic and social value of products to payers and decision makers.
    • Leverages a deep understanding of regulations and market insights to devise innovative market access initiatives that will guarantee a sustainable competitive advantage.
    • Provides leadership with insight and analysis regarding state specific finances for Dendreon’s product, and support budget and long range planning with appropriate pricing assumptions.
    • Develops cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost-utility and budget impact analysis, differentiating Dendreon’s products from competitors and also evaluate ROI of market access activities.
    • Advises the clinical development organization in clinical and economic evidence needed to support payer value proposition.
    • Identifies future competitive scenarios in terms of pricing and reimbursement and communicates them to be included as early input in development planning, clinical programs and studies design.
    • Captures insights about competitor activities and actions in order to influence company business strategy formulation.
    • Interfaces with all company functions at national and local levels in order to ensure that activities and programs to facilitate access initiatives to be delivered appropriately and effectively.
    • Leads both the market access and reimbursement teams.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales and marketing or related field.
    • Seven (7) or more years of relevant market access / reimbursement experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry required.
    • Experience in urology and oncology required.
    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience leading and developing market access, payer and reimbursement teams.
    • Strong leadership, team building, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven experience in successful commercialization of novel biopharmaceutical products in a competitive environment.
    • Proven success with strategic and operational achievements.
    • Must consistently demonstrate sound judgment and strategic decision making abilities.
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of regulation of FDA and PhRMA guidelines.
    • Experience developing and creating formal presentations to executive management.
    • Experience contributing to late stage product development and global commercialization of new products.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Excellent influencing and negotiating skills.
    • The position requires frequent travel (50% or more) to customers within North America and to internal sites
