Overview

The SVP of Commercial and Marketing reports directly to the CEO in Seal Beach, CA, and leads Dendreon’s national sales organization, driving revenue growth, market share expansion, and commercial excellence. This role builds and scales a high-performing sales organization, defines strategic sales initiatives, and ensures alignment with Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Market Access. The SVP fosters a culture of accountability, ownership, and measurable performance while advancing Dendreon’s mission to fight cancer and transform patients’ lives.

Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Strategy:

  • Define and execute national sales strategy to achieve revenue, market share, and patient access goals.
  • Build, scale, and develop a high-performing sales organization, including Regional Directors, Area Managers, and specialty sales representatives.
  • Establish performance metrics, incentive plans, and accountability structures to drive execution and business results.
  • Lead forecasting, resource allocation, and territory management to optimize field force effectiveness.
  • Implement data-driven targeting strategies for key accounts and patient populations.
  • Align field initiatives with brand strategy and patient programs in collaboration with Marketing and Medical Affairs.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Revenue Growth & Market Development:

  • Deliver measurable revenue growth and market share expansion (e.g., previous roles achieved $67M→$485M in Rheumatology, $50M→$320M in Neurology).
  • Lead expansion of field teams, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Develop and execute key account and key opinion leader engagement strategies.
  • Drive new product launches and market entry strategies, ensuring rapid adoption and commercial success.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and implement strategies to maintain market leadership.

Sales Operations & Performance Management:

  • Oversee sales operations, including CRM/SFA systems, call planning, analytics, and reporting.
  • Design and execute incentive compensation plans to drive alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Utilize business intelligence and secondary data to identify growth opportunities and optimize field performance.
  • Lead national and regional sales meetings to align the organization, deliver training, and drive engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory standards across sales practices and programs.

Training & Development:

  • Ensure field teams receive advanced product, disease, and sales training.
  • Implement leadership and management development programs to strengthen the field organization.
  • Partner with HR and Learning teams to build sustainable onboarding and continuous development curricula.
  • Identify skill gaps and deliver targeted training programs to drive measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive commercial experience, including 10+ years in senior sales leadership roles; oncology experience preferred.
  • Proven record of driving revenue growth, expanding field organizations, and achieving measurable commercial results.
  • Expertise in incentive program design, account targeting, and performance-driven culture.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills for large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Deep understanding of Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Sales Operations.
  • Proficiency with CRM/SFA systems, sales analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and growth-driven environment.

Working Conditions:

 

  • Professional office environment; routine use of computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Regular communication, travel, standing, and manual dexterity required.
  • Approximately 25% travel.
